The Holographic Medium is the collaborative effort between guitarist Fiona Gurney (Brookyn, NY) and drummer Maxwell Patterson (Victoria BC), both extremely prolific musicians in their own disciplines, their meeting reveals a natural chemistry between their highly frenetic and technical, yet decidedly punk-rock instrumentalism. The album runs as a continuous experience with each passage flowing into the other. Patterson's unrelenting drumming is a constant presence throughout the entire 45 minute run. Forgoing conventional beats and rhythmic progression he instead employs an endless sisyphean blur of drums rolls and cymbal bashing, All the while Gurney's spidery and nimble guitar playing confidently guides the a-rhythmic chaos constructing a tangled skeleton of effects laden riffs, and dischordant progressions. Half improvisational, half compositional, The Holographic Medium creates a brutal yet cathartic tension, which when sparingly and briefly released, is almost immediately pulled back into the sonic maelstrom.

Maxwell Patterson is a multi-instrumentalist and composer from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Releasing music under his solo moniker ' i.o ', he takes a forward looking approach to instrumental music, incorporating elements of free jazz, post-hardcore, noise rock, industrial electronica, and countless other genres, set to the backdrop of maximalist, elastic limbed drumming which is brought into full focus in his ferocious approach live shows, opting to often perform and tour solo on drums. Since 2014 Patterson has racked up an impressive discography of over 100 LPs, EPs, and Collaborations, 2020 saw him releasing his 100th album and experimental screamo opus 'The Fortunes Told' with digital collective Quantum Natives. 2019 also saw Patterson team up with fellow west coast experimentalist, and industrial brutalist William Ballantyne (City), releasing their unexpectedly down-tempo LP 'Spirit Volume' with visionary NYC label PTP.

Fiona Gurney is a Seattle born, now Brooklyn, New York based guitarist. A punk musician through and through, Fiona's guitar playing is as finnesefully fretted and time-signature obsessed as it is explosively noisy and emotive. incorporating elements of noise-rock, post-hardcore, and grunge, her compositions are dynamic. Marked by very technical ability, inventive and dischordant chord-work, Gurney creates guitar lines that are a frantically picked balancing act of syncopated rhythms and dark eerie melodies. Fiona is perhaps best known for her guitar work in punk duo ' Shake the Baby Til the Love Comes ' whom are second to none in the realm of relentless DIY touring and live shows. The winter of 2019 saw them releasing a second LP 'Growth and Healing Through Bringing Others Down', which was followed by an immense tour of North America spanning nearly 4 months and over 80 shows.
