Mouhoi presents the latest album from Indonesian experimental duo Senyawa:”Alkisah”.
Through deep, powerful, industrial, tribal sounds, “Alkisah” depicts an end to civilisation is near and a yearn for a better future, but doomsday is inevitable.
For this cassette tapes edition, we have partnered with WV Sorcerer Productions and Qiii Snacks Records to bring you a diverse group of artists from Hong Kong and Mainland China for the remix album. Come with two tapes, the album and the remix album. From psychedelic guitar feedback, dark pop, electric cello drone, techno to harsh noise. Each artist was able to deliver their own interpretations of “Alkisah”.
‘Alkisah’ is an apocalyptic album for apocalyptic times – but it’s not a doom-and-gloom record. As Rully points out, “it’s not about saying ‘oh, the world is ending and there’s nothing we can do about it’.” Instead, ‘Alkisah’ is about preparing for life in the aftermath, and rebuilding after a collapse (and not necessarily a physical one, either). It’s about coming up with new strategies, ideas, and methods for practice in a post-apocalyptic world. The big question for the band itself, Rully says, is “how do we, as musicians, cope with times like the present?”

Hard to pick a favourite from this album. Each track sounds unique, but they still manage to form a cohesive body of work. The dark and powerful productions perfectly compliment the vocals. Would love to see Ecko Bazz live, I bet the energy is unreal. Kutkh_Jackdaw
